Where are we now?
We have come a long way since the 40s. Today there are still many threats to ecosystems around the world. However, DDT is no longer one of them. Because of Rachel Carsons book, the government set up the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA makes sure disasters like DDT and raptors never happen again. We are now more conscious of what effect we have on our environment. There are many more organizations that are now committed to preserving nature as it is and even improving it. Major chemical companies know that if they harm the ecosystem they will be fined heavily. There are now strict rules about how many of a chemical can be allowed into the environment. These are all steps to ensure that our future generations can enjoy the same perks that we do.
Populations of eagles, peregrine falcons, and other raptors have soared in recent years due to preservation efforts. Thanks to the last generation for being self aware and accepting responsibility for what they did. It allows our generation, and the future generations to enjoy the wonders of nature.
